This was my first Red Rocks concert experience and I am really glad it was this one. We ended up parking way down by the box office (which is about a mile away) and the walk to the venue was not my favorite but I was very glad that there was a little shortcut through the grasses. When we were walking up to the venue I could see all the people screaming and jumping to the music of the opening band and that was really cool. When we finally made it up the ramp to the entrance, they started to check my bag. Despite the bag being the right size, the security guard made me give up my favorite hand sanitizer. When we started asking them if we could hide it, they were very militant about it and told me I had to throw it away. That did not set a good tone for the show, but it was definitely made up for.
Unfortunately I was not able to go for Paul Russel or Chris Olsen because of my soccer practice but Natasha Bedingfield was a great opener. Despite Natasha having some early challenges with wardrobe (she said her dress kept coming undone) and sound (she was telling someone to turn things up and down a lot during the first few songs), she was very good. Natasha played many of her own songs including “Roller Skate” and surprised some people by covering “Purple Rain” by Prince.
When Meghan came onto the stage she got lifted about ten feet into the air on a platform (don’t worry she was strapped in). With her first song being “Mother” the crowd got pretty hyped and she was off to a great start. Meghan’s six dancers were very good and the choreography was great. She preformed many hits like, “All About that Bass.” I was a little surprised that she only had one outfit for the entire show but it was a pretty cool one.
Our seats were in the eleventh row so we had a pretty great view and even ran into a friend of mine Grace who was sitting right in front of us. Meghan’s song “Better When I’m Dancing” definitely got the crowd up and dancing. She took a giant crowd of people and got them all on their feet and waving their cell phone lights a couple of times during the second half of the show.
Meghan’s merch was pretty cool but it could’ve been a little more appropriate for younger kids which there were a lot of. Despite that we did buy a vinyl copy of her newest album Timeless.
She wrapped up the show with “Made You Look” which we could hear people screaming the words to as we left. Meghan Trainor really knows how to put on a show. I am beyond happy that I went!
