It was like a trip back in time on Saturday night at ReelWorks Denver where Whirling Dervish Productions presented the seminal electronic duo Sasha & John Digweed. From the time they broke in the mid-90’s, these two pioneered the sound of Progressive House & Trance music and it was all on display as they dazzled with a monster four hour set of expertly curated tracks that had the massive crowd dancing till the stroke of 2am.
As we prepped for the night, we weren’t sure what to expect as none of us had been to a electronic show like this is a few years, but upon entering the packed warehouse space, everything came rushing back. The crowd of like minded people were nothing but welcoming as we found some space up front by the corner of the stage where the sub-woofers rattled my sternum and all but forced us to dance.
While many people associate club nights or “raves” like this with a young crowd, it was nice to see a healthy mix of ages in attendance right up to the bitter end. There were spun 22 year olds dancing next to 45 and 50 year olds (who were likely equally as spun) and everyone was soaking up the incredible vibe. Bar lines were short and drinks were strong which kept people where they wanted to be, on the dance floor!
Thanks to Whirling Dervish for bringing these legends back to Denver and getting me back out to a show like this. I can’t wait to see what they come up with next!
